“I have participated every year since the first walk took place and this is my 5th time too” says the founder of Earth Charter Youth Group SynergY Simran Vedvyas and a student of The Universal American School in Dubai. Dubai Cares organizes this Walk for Education, which calls upon residents and organizations in the UAE to walk 3 km in solidarity with the millions of children in developing countries that walk long distances on a daily basis to go to school. We enjoyed Cheering, and singing all along the way and even our youngest participant Avishi Chauhan who is only 5 years of age completed the full walk.
The members also cheered a 70 years old supporter, who is currently visiting his two son’s living in Dubai. He read about the Walk in the newspaper and ensured that one of his sons dropped him for the walk and the other one picked him up.
SynergY has promoted the Walk through social media and has seen rise in number of participants each year. We have a dedicated page for supporting the cause – says Vrunika Parikh, student from Our Own English High School Sharjah. SynergY is constantly promoting and raising awareness about the Millennium Development Goals and Education for All is crucial and important especially “Primary Education in developing countries”. We ask all members of the civil society to reach out and find how they can at least support and teach one child and this will make a difference. The group is participating in “What Works- WellBeing” initiative by Knowledge and Human Development Authority as chosen Partner this month to share their experience with educators including school principals’ and teachers.
